That said, a LOW strength can inhibit your damage so much that you could hit a target and not do any damage. DAMAGE in melee is modified by Strength, but is generally more dependent on the type of weapon you're using (Proton Ax > Chainsaw > Regular Ax). It's also worth noting that your roll to hit accuracy when attacking with a "Brawling" weapon is modified by your Luck score, not your Strength. The number of melee attacks, of any kind, that you get in the game is arrived at using the following formula:Īttacks = 1 + (half your Brawling Skill rank, rounded down). Also, the number of melee attacks you get per round in combat is always and forever based on your Brawling skill. There are no weapons that can be used with Pugilism or Knife Fighting that are as good as the Chainsaw and definitely nothing on the level of the Proton Ax. Brawling is THE melee skill of Wasteland Remastered and really the best "no ammo" fighting skill to use on random encounters and to get your Brawling up for later Proton Ax use. Fighting using bare fists requires/levels Pugilism, and using a knife requires/levels Knife Fighting, both of which are to be avoided because they're redundant skills. It's generally considered good advice to put 2 ranks in Brawling for every character at creation and to give them an Ax as soon as possible (I cannot remember if the crowbar levels you up or not). If you consider talking about the game's math and mechanics to be "spoilers" then SPOILERS AHEAD. Going from starting 2 to 4 is a lot more difficult to get 2 raises in brawling, where as going from 3 to 4 just requires a lucky +1 ! hehe.īut like most skills in the game that aren't perception, gamble, acrobat, climb etc skills go up very slow, if at all. I used to pick 2 assault 1 at on characters, but then realized its worthless to use any of those things when i can just use chainsaws, start with 3 brawling, and if im lucky to get someone to raise to 4 during the first half of the game, or 2/3rds before i start on energy weapons suddenly i am doing 3 attacks a round instead of 2. Which is why i usually start it as high as i can early on so that way HOPEFULLY it will go up enough to do some extra. knives are linked to knives, fists to pugialism, axes, clubs, chainsaws, to brawling, misc items to nothing. So they can raise brawling, but why use a crowbar when an axe or club does the same and is linked to the skill.īut it goes up slow, no one jumps to 8 brawling very fast, if at all. Well any melee weapon can raise brawling, knives, fists, etc but some aren't actually linked to the skill, like utility items shovels, pick axes, etc.
